Curricular Innovations

When the Noncredit Career Pathways project began in 2017, few colleges in the Los Angeles region offered noncredit courses, particularly noncredit career technical education (CTE). Partner colleges were at varying stages of developing noncredit career education and workforce development programs. Some colleges did not yet have basic noncredit infrastructure in place. Through the work of Noncredit Career Pathways, more colleges now have in place the faculty and administrators needed to establish or grow their noncredit programs. A primarily faculty-led noncredit community of practice has formed, and it supports other colleges in the Los Angeles region by providing technical assistance and collaboration on curriculum. Because of these investments of faculty and project funding, there are now more noncredit CTE programs.

Career Development and College Preparation (CDCP) Certificates

Since the start of Noncredit Career Pathways, college partners have developed nearly 400 Career Development and College Preparation (CDCP) CTE certificates across 12 sectors and priority clusters.

This table below shows the number of certificates developed in each sector category:

Noncredit Contextualized Courses

Below are noncredit contextualized courses that can be contextualized to various CTE disciplines. For example, the Reading and Writing for College and Career Readiness course has been contextualized for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to focus on the skills required to write a research paper, along with other reading and writing skills, including annotating a text, test-taking strategies and vocabulary strategies. Each course listed below is linked to the course outline of record from the lead college, Mt. SAC. Each course was developed by the faculty lead and the noncredit regional community of practice.
